The objective of Victim Support Europe is the relief of poverty, sickness and distress among persons in Europe which have arisen as a result of any criminal offence committed by any person or through any means whatever. Besides that, the objective is the advancement of education of the public throughout Europe and in particular to increase awareness of the problems if victims of crimes and the remedial action.
Victim Support Europe is professionalizing itself constantly. The goal is to become an even stronger European organisation, working as a competent representative stimulating further establishment of the rights of victims of crime in Europe. Victim Support Europe therefore is building a network within the European Commission and authorities from European countries. Victim Support Europe invites (non-governmental) organisations to join our network.
Members of Victim Support Europe have the advantage of:
- the promotion and development of effective support services for victims of crime throughout Europe,
- the promotion of and advisement on the rights of victims of crime in Europe under the laws of the country having jurisdiction to adjudicate upon matters relating to the crime or crimes in question,
- the promotion of opportunities for the exchange of experiences and information between victim service organisations throughout Europe,
- the representation of the views of members of VSE to the European Parliament, the Commission of the EU, the Council of Europe, the United Nations and (after consultation of the national organisation concerned) with national governments,
- the provision of information and advice to individuals and groups planning to organise services for victims of crime in European countries where such services do not exist,
- the publication and distribution of reports, leaflets and other literature relating to existing services, good practice models and services which would benefit victims of crime,
- the organisation of conferences for the exchange of information including conferences on issues relating to victims of crime for members and other interested parties,
- the formation of liaisons with bodies through Europe (whether national or international, governmental or non-governmental, statutory or non-statutory) representing other professions and other interest groups whose contribution could be beneficial to victims of crime.
Conditions
Membership is open for Non Governmental Organisations providing or co-ordinating services for victims of crime. It is also open for organisations which are planning to develop services in countries where none at present exist. There are conditions a potential member is expected to meet.
Fees
Full membership depends on the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), with a minimum of € 250,- a year.
(GDP is a measure of the total flow of goods and services produced over a specified time period, usually a year.)
Application
To apply for membership you can fill in the application form for membership. The application will be assessed by the Executive Committee to determine whether membership will be granted.
